Manistique, MI, March 2026 — Since 1991, the Manistique Folk Festival has proudly honored a Folk Fest Hero, an individual who embodies the spirit, generosity, and energy that makes Schoolcraft County such a special place to live. This cherished tradition continues in 2026 with an updated and more accessible nomination process, making it easier than ever for community members to recognize someone who truly makes a

difference.

The Folk Fest Committee is excited to announce the launch of a new, fillable Folk Fest Hero Nomination Form, designed to give everyone more ways to participate. Whether you prefer pen and paper or a few clicks online, nominating your local hero is now simpler and more convenient.

A Folk Fest Hero is someone who stands out through their dedication to the community, often quietly, always selflessly. Heroes are known for their volunteerism, leadership, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to worthy causes, local projects, and public service. They are positive role models who bring people together and inspire others through action, courage, and heart.

“The Folk Fest Hero is one of the most meaningful traditions we have because it celebrates the people who pour their time, energy, and heart into our community, often without any recognition,” said Victoria George, Executive Director of Schoolcraft Tourism & Commerce and a member of the Folk Fest Committee. “By offering both hard-copy and online nomination options, we’re making it easier for everyone to share the stories of the everyday heroes who help make Schoolcraft County such a special place.”

Nomination Timeline

Nominations will be accepted April 1 through May 15, 2026.

How to Submit a Nomination:

Nomination forms request basic contact information for both the nominee and the

nominator, along with a short description of how the nominee lives out the qualities of a Folk Fest Hero. Submissions may be completed directly on the form or provided as a typed page.

If selected, the 2026 Folk Fest Hero will be recognized during a special Award Ceremony on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of the Manistique Folk Festival. Nominators are also asked to provide two to three individuals who would be willing to share a brief tribute during the ceremony.

The Folk Fest Committee encourages community members to participate and help continue this longstanding tradition of appreciation and celebration.

Now is the perfect time to recognize the neighbor, volunteer, mentor, or community champion who makes Schoolcraft County stronger. Nominate your Folk Fest Hero and help shine the spotlight on the people who make our community thrive.
